The current PCC
The PCC was elected on 12 April 2026. It includes both ex-officio and elected members, with the churchwardens and Deanery Synod Representative serving as ex-officio members and a wider group of lay people bringing experience, stability and care to parish governance.
Churchwardens
Matthew Shelley and Yara Ziadé serve as churchwardens. Matthew was born and bred in Bethnal Green and has been a member of the congregation his entire life. Yara is originally from Lebanon and has been attending church for around a decade, along with her teenage daughter. They can be contacted at wardens@st-matthews.org.uk.
Andrea Silva-Goncalves and Mario Sepulveda serve as deputy wardens.
Rector and clergy
St Matthew’s is currently in interregnum, so there is no rector at present. Services are currently being conducted by visiting priests, while the parish continues to support worship, pastoral care and the wider life of the church.
Parish office
Dawn Bigsby is our Parish Bookkeeper, Administrator, PCC Clerk and Operations Assistant. She has served the parish for almost two decades. Her email address is admin@st-matthews.org.uk. Treasurer and leadership
Alfred Kamara-Laye is our treasurer. Olivia Blanning is our lay vice chair and is currently acting as chair in the absence of a rector. Zena Hussein serves as Safeguarding Officer and Deanery Synod Representative, and the PCC includes long-standing parishioners who have played vital roles in the stability and growth of St Matthew’s for decades.
Music and ministry
Jonathan Ticher is our Director of Music and Sunday organist. He is also a trombone player, has spent most of his adult life in London, and has been at St Matthew’s for the past three years, leading our musical events.
